Earl is a decorated OBIE and American Advertising Award winner for his outdoor work at Adams Outdoor, but he’s recently taken the leap to carve his niche designing film art for the underground horror film industry. He’s created nearly 100 VHS and DVD covers, and marketing materials for resurrected cult films with Massacre Video, Vinegar Syndrom, and other similar production companies.
His work for King Buffalo and Black Devil Doll from Hell show his layered hard-lined charcoal illustration style. He tries to incorporate this signature style into projects where he can, but some companies are simply looking for a variation and enhancement of the original poster art released with the film. This is tough sometimes because the assets are dated and not in the best condition, but Earl has crafted a style and way of making them work. You can view more of his work on his website earlkess.com.
He attributes his industry relationships and wealth of ongoing projects to networking and being involved. He’s also been a volunteer at the Sherman Theater for many years where he manages annual cinema events in the horror genre. He aspires to become more involved with direction and production of his own films and plans to continue his passion and expand his work into a film genre advertising agency.
